Tanesha Mundle reports that Sherona Forrester, a member of the Jamaica senior women’s football team, Reggae Girls, is a 2016 Rhodes Scholar.

The Clarendon native was selected from an outstanding field of eight competitors. The announcement was made by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen at King’s House today.

“My mind went blank. The whole world stopped just for a second or so. Then I replayed it just to make sure that it was my name that was being called and then I just started smiling because I couldn’t believe it and I am still here in the surreal of it all,” said the University of the West Indies graduate.

Forrester will be pursuing an MPhil at Oxford University in England.

  1. That’s great and congrats to her but does she know WHO Cecil Rhodes was and whose legacy she is perpetuating? That’s my question. If I was her I would accept it get my degree and use it to blast Cecil Rhodes and the Rhodes scholarship fellowship whatever it is. But it is our peoples ignorance that keeps them supporting white men’s blood derived wealth and institutions.
